I kid you not, Sephiroth giggles. I won my first battle with him, and not only was his end of battle music freakin' cool, but he also said, "Hehehe". I had subtitles on, so I know this is what he was saying. WTF, Dissidia?
I've played as several characters now, so I'm going to start ranking them in order of preference for their fighting styles. This does not include Gabranth or Shantotto, because I haven't unlocked them yet.
Pref. | Character | Lv. | Comments |
1. | Cloud (The Soldier) |
100 | No. of times played: 344. Forget everything I said before. I have maxed out Cloud's level and I like playing him so much I'm still fighting with him, trying to get enough AP to max out his skills. It's taking a while, considering that his remaining abilities need anything up to 100 CP to equip. Ouch. |
2. | Squall (The Lion) |
13 | No. of times played: 107. Squall is freakin' awesome. I normally hammer on his Blizzard Barret long range Bravery attack until the opponent hits Break, and then go charging in with Rough Divide to one-hit KO pretty much everybody. Now I've got him past level 10, he also has Beat Fang, which is probably the best Bravery attack I've had so far in the game, with perhaps the exception of Cloud's ones that have HP attacks linked to them. |
3. | Sephiroth (The Champion) |
1 | No. of times played: 7. ...he sometimes giggles when I win a battle with him. Oh, I'm sorry, chuckles in a manly and refined way, that somehow comes out as "Hehehe". More to the point, however, he has a fantastic balance of long and close range attacks, plus his "close range" is more like everyone else's "mid-range". Versatile and awesome. |
4. | Jecht (The Phantom) |
1 | No. of times played: 2. Freakin' powerful. His attacks look powerful, and they are powerful. I love that he headbutts his opponent as part of one of his Bravery combos. :D |
5. | The Emperor (The Despot) |
1 | No. of times played: 2. I love this guy as much for his poses as anything else. Gotta love a guy who finishes a battle and sits cross-legged in midair like - well, an Emperor on his throne. Need to play him more often. He's also my favourite guy to whale on, because that battlegens Regen accessories. |
6. | Cloud of Darkness (The Wraith) |
1 | No. of times played: 1. First of all, her name is funny. Hehehe. Okay, 12 moment over. That said, she kicks butt - her Particle Beam is so much awesome it's not even funny. |
7. | Firion (The Liegeman) |
1 | No. of times played: 1. Fast and fun. The first battle I played with him was against The Emperor, and Firion killed him in under 10 seconds. |
8. | Ultimecia (The Witch) |
1 | No. of times played: 2. Ultimecia is pretty much the ultimate long-range fighter. All her attacks are long-range. This sometimes causes some aiming issues, but for the most part she just pummels things into dust pretty quickly. Unfortunately, though, she doesn't move very fast, so you have to get the timing right to block with her. |
9. | Onion Knight (The Youth) |
1 | No. of times played: 1. I tried his long-range stuff, and it sucks. Get him in close, though, and damn. He's very quick, and although it looks like he's not doing much damage (lots of "1"s in there), he one-hit KO'd Exdeath. |
10. | Terra (The Girl) |
1 | No. of times played: 1. Of all the characters I hate to fight against the most, Terra and Kefka top the list. Terra's decent enough to play with, although her lack of self-confidence annoys me. Why, of the only women on Cosmos' side, do they pick the one with the stupid girly "save me!" attitude, when she can clearly kick butt all on her own? |
11. | Bartz (The Traveller) |
1 | No. of times played: 1. He copies other people's attacks! Which might be cool, except his close-range HP attack is Cecil's boring Soul Eater. Having said that, he's too cute and bouncy for me to hate much. |
12. | Zidane (The Thief) |
1 | No. of times played: 2. Fast, spinny little thing. Not much going on by way of HP attacks, though. And his Bravery attacks don't do that much damage. Might be a decent all-rounder once he's levelled up a little. |
13. | Kuja (The Reaper) |
1 | No. of times played: 2. I have something of an issue with aiming Kuja's attacks, since they seem to have a set range for the most part and not a very wide area of effect. However, they are deceptively powerful. |
14. | Warrior of Light (The Hero) |
2 | No. of times played: 11. He has an annoying tendency to have attacks that say "long range", but are in fact nothing like it. Or next to impossible to activate. |
15. | Tidus (The Dreamer) |
1 | No. of times played: 2. Fairly versatile, with a good mix of short and long range attacks, but, like Cecil, he just bores me. Which is a shame, because I like Tidus. |
16. | Cecil (The Knight) |
18 | No. of times played: 98. Meh. He's a decent character, and I guess his job change between Paladin and Dark Knight could be kinda fun, but mostly he just bores me. There's no wow factor. His attacks also have a steep learning curve, since he's essentially two characters in one. Which, again, could be fun - except that he always starts battles in his Dark Knight mode, which most definitely sucks in comparison to Paladin. |
17. | Golbez (The Warlock) |
1 | No. of times played: 1. He, uh ... floats. Slowly. And ... um. He floats? Golbez is one of my favourite characters to pummel at lower levels, because he moves so slowly I can kick his butt with pretty much anyone. He does get tougher at higher levels, but not in a way I find interesting. |
18. | Kefka (The Harlequin) |
1 | No. of times played: 1. He's like a cross between Dhoulmagus and Heath Ledger's Joker. In a bad way. He gets plus points for being frickin' weird, but minus points for sucking. |
19. | Garland (The Stalwart) |
1 | No. of times played: 1. Man is he slow! And he's a close-range fighter, which makes it even worse. Pit him against someone like Zidane or Cloud and he's pretty much toast at low levels. |
20. | Exdeath (The Great Tree |
1 | No. of times played: 1. So. Slow. Clearly the over-powered, over-armoured dickweed type. Major turn-off. |
